Swans

I had four swans drop into my set this morning.  They passed over me about 10 yards high, dropped into the decoys just above the ground and circled a couple times before moving on.  Awesome sight, I’ve never had them that close.  They are BIG birds.

Back in the 70's, I was hunting with my son near Royal City and had six Swan land in my decoys on a small pothole in the sage brush. At that time there were very few Swan in the state and I told my son that he had witnessed something that few people would ever see. Living in Whatcom County it is a common site every winter to see hundreds of the big birds, something I thought would never happen. As you said, they are huge, majestic birds.

Now don't those things look just like snow geese.    They make snows look like gosslings.  I watched some kids pull up on some swans today and I yelled SWANS.  It looked like they were going to get smoked, luckily something kicked in.

My dad and I had some fly by about 40 yards away before and they are HUGE!!!!! I dont know how anyone could mistake them... some people need some serious waterfowl id training if they mix up the two..

i had 4 fly over me at about 10 yards on saterday!!!huge they scared the *censored* out of me cuz i was not looking that way and they did not make any noise till they were close enough that i could have touched them

They kinda taste like spotted owl. But way better than Bald Eagle

Those swans are pretty cool. Definitely look different than a snowgoose. We had a flock of each fly over us last weekend. Both are pretty cool birds in their own way.

I am going to put in for Utah and North Carolina next year.  My goal is to shoot a collared swan.  My buddy shot one last season in North Carolina.  I have a spot on the wall for it.

How is the meat? Same as goose? by the looks of them, there is a lot to eat there. If you don't do the taxidermy yourself I bet it's a fortune to mount...

Good luck on the hunt. My out of state hunts right now are focused on snows still
