Nice buck. There are a bunch of big ones out here on Cooper point RD and evergreen parkway. I have had some close calls a couple times.

The biggest blacktail I have sen in WA was feeding on the side of I-5 just south of Tumwater, about 7 years ago.  He was a 5X6 with a 24"+ spread, no camera, of course.

this is why washington needs a point restriction on the westside. i think it should be a three point min. so bucks can grow to maturity and we can get to see what kind of genetics are going to pop out in areas where most of the deer killed are spikes or small two points. yes some deer only grow to be very large two points but id rather see an area full of mature  huge two points than an area sparse with any bucks. plus when an animal is mature the bodu whieght is way more than a yearling or a two and a half year old deer.

Maybe on a unit by unit basis, 75% or more of the bucks here in the islands never grow more than forks, at least on our island.

That will never happen b/c the WDFW would only do that if they were forced to because the populations were down on the westside. Ultimately it would cost the WDFW tag revenue from people going to other states. Its a fact that most of the bucks shot on the westside are spikes/forks but that is because they are dumb and havent learned what it takes to survive, it doesnt mean there arent big three, four and even five points in every unit on the westside. There are tons of big mature bucks on the westside, they are shot by the same 5% of hunters every year. If they went to a 3 point min the bucks that get big enough to be 3 points would be just as hard to find as the bucks that get big enough to get 3 points as it is today. If you want to shoot a 3 point than dont shoot the first spike or fork you see. If you dont see any 3 points than hunt thicker stuff from a stand during the last week of October, put out a game camera and scout, they are there.

I agree to a certain sense. But if that is true then why do you see more bucks in 2 point min areas or 3 point min areas on the east side. I know that mule deer are a different creature but most people shoot 3 points. I believe a point restriction would be a good thing the whole west side of Oregon is 2 point min we should follow.
Remember that buck is climbing that Mt. every day!

I would agree with a two point minimum as that will allow the deer to put a little more meat on their bones.  Here, they put about ten pounds on between years.

My buddy and I have seen that buck (or one very similar) on the hoof.  I saw him up off of I-5 by the exit to Evergreen.  It has been so long ago I has forgotten about him.

Urban bucks get big. I used to be late to school chasing a giant 4 point around on south hill in puyallup. Theris now a safeway at one spot id see him and a movie theater at the other. that was a little over 10 years ago though.

Sad, I saw some buck's near there too then, off of 172nd and 160th. Used to see a lot of grouse there too, all gone now. You see a lot of the deer in the Graham area malnourished due to lack of feed with all the development around them.

On the 3 pt. min. for blacktail, that would be the worst thing you could do as far as improving genetics. The lifer 2 points would breed more doe's than they do currently. You would need to shut down season's to affect that kind of change.
