well got a call late last sunday night from my mother inlaw telling me that my father inlaws longtime hunting buddy just put a elk down late sunday afternoon and wanted to know if i was free the next day to help pack out. As a true hunting pal, of course i helped, especially since he put me on my elk in early archery and helped me pack it out. So i owed him one. So i ventured to my inlaws at 7am to have him meet us and take us to the elk....
long story short, it was completely up on a plateau 8 miles from the truck mostly up hill. it rained the whole time and i forgot to get my hunting boots when i left my house and only had my light summer trail shoes on. i got completely soaked head to toe, tore my way to expensive and ineffective rivers west pants on a snag while trying to cross a creek with 50+lbs of hind quarter on my back and not eat dirt at the same time. we got there at 8 and didnt make it out till about 3pm after everything. it took 1 trip with 6 guys total. btw the elk was out of the siouxon unit.
unfortunately the animal was already cut up so i couldn't enjoy it in its entirety but he showed up in the morning with the trophy. with all that said and done it was a awesome retrieval, i had fun and its a good feeling to know that alot of my hunting buddies are putting animals on the ground. the only pics at the moment until i buy a new memory card reader...
