horns cut off

A group of hunters were hunting in the clearwater unit and found a bull with its horns cut of. The bull was with a group of 15 cows and one spike. They said they could see that the base of the horns were big. I have seen the same thing about 5 years ago in the same unit. Does anyone know why they do this? Who would do this? the state or the tribes. I was thinking they do this to keep a good gene pool in the clearwater. I went looking for the bull to get pictures but couldn't find him. thanks ron

There was a post about this right before elk season.  Our esteemed game dept. does it to protect breeding bulls during the spike only hunting on the Eastside.

It was also said that the WDFW did it with transported game to protect itself

From a game dep. officer. Its done when an bull is transplanted. Do you really think they have enough spare time to track down a bull, drug it, cut the branches off?? That doesn't make any sense..

They would rather use our dollars to waste time upon this action rather than true game management, and yes they do cut them off when transporting them from another area, as which was posted in an earlier thread.

There are also bulls in and around the entrances to the park which see vehicles, and livestock as a threat and also to keep poachers from killing the more visual (resident herds) so some of that might be an issue too

So was there a bull tag in the unit ? if there was I think its bs , If not probibly a good idea.
