 :yeah:
I concur. On Halloween weekend, last of regular Wetside season, 2 friends each took big blacktails in unit 667. Both bucks were tailing does. Me? I was elk hunting eastern WA that weekend and following weekdays.

late rifle season, I saw 11 single does, hunting 3 different areas in Vail. Did not see a single big buck trailing any of those does.
Archery late, so far: 3 single does in 3 trips, no bucks with them.

yeah, rut is over for the wetside. Bucks have probably gone back to their old habits & going nocturnal.
I'm giving it one more weekend and calling it a season.

Oh No Charlie that sucks!!! That would be frustrating. The only time that has ever happened to us was when Eric got his nice buck and there were the other 2 with it. My older boy's gun didn't go off, well he lied about a grade he had and when we got home, we realized why his gun didn't go off. Hopefully, you've been a good boy..lol Just Kidding ;)

I ran into a guy yesterday that said he saw a buck with his nose up a doe's backside chasing her for 10 minutes Saturday. I saw the Same buck Sunday. No doe with him but he was as stupid as they come.

Well, a doe that wasn't bred the first time comes into heat a month later. So it would make sense that some does would be coming into heat right about now, and any buck nearby would be very interested in chasing her.      :)

But yeah the main rut when most of the does were bred was over in mid-November.

I read that the does will keep having estrus cycles until they get bred. This could explain why some bucks rut late.

Yes, it does explain it. It's the does that decide when they are going to get bred, not the bucks.

Kinda the same as it is with us humans.   :)
