Lots of Elk Today.
« on: November 28, 2009, 03:17:42 PM »
My son and I got into a large herd today.  We had just stepped out of the timber and he says, "I here something walking"  We see a couple elk walking thru the timber about 20 yrds from us, can only see the legs.  I hit the cow call and they stop, after a couple more calls they start to move toward us.  All of a suden all hell brakes out and about 30 of um come runnin out of the woods.  We were down wind the whole time.  My son and I sart hoofin it to get on the tracks.  About that time 2 hunters come out of the timber about 30 yrds up wind of where the elk let out.  We tracked them till about 2pm but never seen them again.

Along the way we found track from a bleeding elk, tracked for about 2 miles till we lost it in the herd tracks.  Alot of people just aiming at the herds this year and then hitting one and never finding it.  Sad to say it, but thats what happens.  I live smack in the middle of an Any Elk unit and we get a lot of yahoo's up here every year.

Oh well, back in the woods on Monday to find that herd again.

HUnting with my 15 year old, he has a Muzzy tag.  I live in SW Washington, lot of state land here but also alot of private.  I hunt about 6 miles behind closed gates.  Hunted the same area with my 16 year old during Modern and seen no Elk.  Tommorow we're be back at it again.  HOpefully we'll have some pic's of his first Elk.
