12 ga. 2 3/4"  - 1.25 oz of #5, the red Win wad (AA12R), win 209 primer, XXg of Herco.  -

If you want the powder charge I'll PM it to you.  This is a starting point only.  I suggest that you verify this load in a loading manual.  Do not use anything off of an internet message board without verifying it to be safe.

Good point!!!! To many horror stories of guys who have blown their gun or hand off because they didn't follow the recipe. I would go to ballistic products or midway or any shooting supply store and see what manuals they have, I bought one for reloading hevi shot, and also for reloading slugs for my slug gun.

Go to the Hodgdon.com site. I have to agree about #5 shot, it hits very hard on birds. I have had good luck with Longshot powder, very high velocities.

What gauge?

Assuming 12.... I used to have a load using Blue Dot (grns ?) out of AA cases and Rem wads, CCI 209s with an 1 3/8oz of copper 5s that was death on pheasants and ducks (back when lead was legal).  It shot around 1350 if memory serves.

Blue Dot rocks, it used to be my powder for 3” goose shells with 1 7/8 oz of  #2.  But I can’t even shoot turkeys with those any more.

Why not, sounds like a great turkey load? Do you hunt in a steel only area?

WA has a new law restricting turkey shot size to #4 or less.  The load will still work but I can't use the #2 shot.
