Is he Boone or not....
« on: January 09, 2008, 12:31:29 PM »
I seriously wonder what this bull would score, if he would make Boone or not???  I strugle the most with scoring elk, and this is a nice one.  Many of you may have seen him on MM or on here in another thread, I'm reposting him because I wanted elknuts REAL opinion.  I looked hard for the sheds, but never picked them up.  DANG IT

Bone,

I am by far no expert, and with out being able to see the spread of the bull via a head on pic it's kinda tough. But good lord those g-3's, 4's, 5's & 6's are monstrous!! I would say that bull is over 375 gross unless the spread is narrow. I would give my left one to harvest that bull!! Suppose your not telling where and when you took that pic.

Great looking bull for sure but slightly shy of a Booner Bull. I'd put him in the 370 class, gross not net. Did you snap the photos through binos or spotting scope? I'd about guarantee he doesn't go the 380 min.

What was the average score you received at MM? Thanks!

For some reason I had 380 on the brain for the min score, but jackelope is correct in his assumption! It's 360, that means yes, I feel that bull posted will make or exceed that score best as I can tell from the photo. My guess is he's in a draw unit, is this correct?

I would say Yes he would.  He has some awesome tine length.  Without seeing the width and not really knowing what kinda mass he's got, he still looks like he'd go 375 1/8!  ;)

Here's a comparison of a great looking bull we took. It was taken by my good friend Chris a few years back. I scored this bull as well just after he was taken. He scored 355" He looks bigger to some but the tape don't lie! (grin) I believe boneaddicts bull is a bit better than this one!

The bull has some nice backs but the fronts are pretty short. I would give him about a 364 gross. I called in a few thet would go about 375 to 380 gross and got one of them on video. That is a dandy bull for sure Bone. I posted a picture of a 388 bull that I mounted in the taxidermy section that has the same look of that bull but has exceptional fronts to give him that 388 score. It was shot with a bow by the way.

I wouldnt care if he was a booner or not! If I had a tag and had him in my sights during rifle season, he'd be on the ground. I wouldnt care how much ground shrinkage there was. I think he's a great bull, but I'm a novice at scoring. Actually Id rather stick him with my bow anyday.

I thought he was between 370-375.  MM was so all over, I had guys saying he was a 320 bull. Yea right.  I had a guy go up to 385.  If he had fronts to match the backs he sure would have been.  I don't think his fronts were as small as they appear, just because the rest of him was so big, but they were his weak spots.  He was in the NE corner, Selkirk, so NOT a draw bull, anyone could hunt him.  It was taken with max on my digital zoom, which is 36 power or something like that on the Lumix 10.  There were a bunch of decent Satellite bulls and at least 50 cows.  He was still bugling and it was mid november.   Thanks for your honest opinion elknut, and everyone.  Some squirrel had himself one heck of a chew toy.  I saw antoher bull like him this fall, not as massive but more inches.
