My 2009 Idaho Mule Deer
« on: December 07, 2009, 08:10:19 PM »
Well here he is.... my 2009 regular season mule deer. Shot him Oct.22  He has a gross score of 196.5 and a 30 inch outside spread.
Sorry guys Im not going to give much detail on were in Idaho I killed him at because there has been a few people that have moved in on my hunting grounds since I have been on here....Sorry.  But I can tell you the story.  :)

We (my two partners and I) started up the creek drainage really early in the morning (hours before daylight) to get up as high as we could get before the Sun got to high.  Once it got daylight we slowed down and started spotting deer with our spotting scopes.  Around 9:00 I seen a group of 4 deer moving up the hill across the river at 1600yards away with my 10x binos and I could tell one of them was a NICE buck.  So I got the attention of my partners and we got the spotting scopes out.  Well buy the time we got the spotting scopes out all we could see is one deer and it was a buck but It wasn't what I was looking for.  After at least an hour of looking and not seeing any more deer we started back up the hill.  Going up the hill we seen a few more bunches but no shooters.  Around 10:30 we were glassing once more and my partner looked back were I had seen that buck earlier and there were deer starting to feed up on the top face of the hill (still 1600+ yards away).  I got the spotting scope on them and there were a few nice bucks in there but still no shooters......... then all of a sudden I seen movement from the rocks and low and behold PIGZILLA.  ;)  We watched him feed, spare and all that good stuff for about 30 minutes untill he went right back up to the rocks were he came from and bedded back down.  Once he laid down..... I MADE my move.  To make a HELL hike short..... 2 1/2 hours later I made it up the other side of the mountain.  Once I got there I spotted the buck bedded down.....(He got up once while I was going to him but my partner was watching with the spotting scope).  I carefully crawled up to the side ridge were I could look across at him on the other side of the hill.  I look over and THERE HE WAS!! .... only 236 yards away laying there with a few other bucks but all I could see was his head and horns.  I QUIETLY got set up and ready for the shot once he got up.  I waited for 1 hour untill he finely got up ( IT FELT LIKE A LIFE TIME!!..)  Once he stood up...... :hello:  DEAD DEER!!  By the time we got him de-boned and back to camp it was passed 10pm.  I must say this deer hunt was the HARDEST hunt I have ever been on in my life but he was worth it.  :)

A HUGE thanks to my hunting partners Jason and Brady!!  without them I wouldn't have got this buck.

Great deer, congrats.

When you were up the creek drainage, you didn't find my paddle did you?
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Holy cow, nice buck. I have to agree though, those are the worst pics ever. Kinda like looking at a porno mag in the dark, can't see much!

Trust me my friend..... I'm not happy about the pictures. the shadows were very bad BUT there not as blurry as they look.  I just didn't have my digital camera with me on the mountain. So I had to scan them.
