last day of late buck on westside
« on: December 12, 2009, 05:22:31 PM »
i hunted hard this rifle season. i saw alot of elk and deer. i saw a little spike on a gated road in the winston unit with two does probably 20 yards from me and my son he looked at me like one of my pet dogs he had stubs for horns i could not shoot him. i figured it was best to let him pass and may be i would see him next year and he would be bigger. i hunted the coweeman the last day of rifle season on a gated road we went about 5 miles in im walking down the road and there is tons of open timber on both sides of this road i see some elk  sign on the road i tell my son this is could place to see a deer. i walk down this road that comes to a old landing and it is a brush hole so i turn around head back to the road no sooner when i turn the corner i hear twigs popping so i tell my son to stop next thing i know this  3x4  comes cruising out of the bushes probably 25 yards right across the road in front of me. we had walked in so far i shouldered my rifle as i was getting tired of carrying it. i follow him into the timber never saw him again this is second time this is happen to me in this unti. there are so many road hunters that lots of the  bucks  hide in the brush and the reprod.all i could do is laugh may be next year. put in for a multi season for 2010 may be i will get lucky and draw it for deer and me and him will meet up  again:chuckle:

Sounds like even though you didn't get anything, it was a good year and you saw animals. Good luck next year!

Better luck next year too!!! Cant get em every year but atleast you saw some. I got drawn for the multi season deer tag this year and probably will never put in for it again. I think it's a huge waste of money and a way for the state to make more. It's nice to hunt the seasons if you have the time. :twocents:

I put in for the elk this year and never drew. Glad I didnt get drawn this year because my season was done the first two hours of opening morning in Sept. with a big cow at fifteen yards. :IBCOOL: Maybe next year I''ll put in for the elk again.
