they are a solid built gun i prefer musket caps and that gun cannot use musket caps or i would i would buy one to try. i also wish they made a thumb hole stock version of it as well.

i see they offer a musket nipple on there website but this gun must be only for percussion or 209. i have seen them but  have not looked at them i thought you could put a musket nipple in them. i prefer the musket cap as well.

i saw this in the ad at cabelas...

Quote
The break-open action is outfitted with a super-tight seal for positive ignition even in wet weather.

is it actually exposed and legal here?

o.k to clear things up yes jakelope it is legal the modle that cabelas carry are not the west modle they are just the pursuit xlt this is the west modle that has about a half inch hole above the nipple. so yes the west modle it is exposed and legal.

second no shorthair you can not add a musket nipple intoi this gun, when they first came out i looked at buying one the nipple does not fit in the gun and it comes with a piece of paper in the box thats says do not! put a musket cap nipple on this gun in big bold letters.

carp...
not challenging you as it seems you've seen one, but the cabelas ad i pulled that text from calls it a west model.

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0072045216693a&type=product&cmCat=froogle&cm_ven=data_feed&cm_cat=froogle&cm_pla=1220102&cm_ite=0072045216693a

obviously you've seen it so i'm sure you're right, but maybe they ought to consider changing their ad if thats the case. they might sell a couple.

yeah that is the west one jackelope it says number 11 in the add it is closed breech and it is legal because of the open hole above the nipple that makes it exposed and legal i did not think they carryed that modle  but they do i guess and yes if it is that gun it is legal.

My cousin bought on of these gun's last year. I would highly recomend you not buy one.  My cousin never could get his gun to shoot on the first pull of the trigger. Ended up missing out on a deer at 40 yards. Then we find out they had some sort of recall on the gun. He contacts traditions. They tell him that the hammer spring isn't strong enough. They send him a new one. Okay we get the hammer spring changed out and head to the range. He puts about 3-4 rounds down range.  Cleaning the gun between every shot. Since we had three muzzies with us that day we where all taking turns.  He loads the gun. steps up to the line. caps the gun. closes it and BOOM. Thankfully we all use our heads when we shoot, and he had it pointed the other direction.  Needless to say he was done shooting. He contacted traditions. They told him that he didn't clean the area around the firing pin. causing it to stick and hit the cap when he shot. If you want one he might sell you his. Let me know I'll call him. Otherwise don't buy one.
It's not the size of the trophy that make's it a trophy.
