Cleaning deer antlers

Alright, here's my one stupid question for the day:
How do you get all the pitch and "gunk" out of the brow area of antlers without damaging them?  Don't know the proper term for the bumps around the eyeguards....It's not a huge rack, it's just some antlers that I'm mounting myself here at the house but I want it to turn out halfway decent.
Any input you might have would be greatly appreciated.

"all the pitch and "gunk" out of the brow area"  Navyhunter, I love all the pitch, bark, pine needles, etc. in the gnarly areas of the antlers, and attempt to leave as much as possible on them.  Why would you want it out?

:yeah: I would start with simple green and an old tooth brush if you want to clean it up though.

Leave it there

Thanks guys.  I decided to leave it there and got some plaster ready to make the mold....got that done and thought it looked okay but the more I looked at it the worse it got so I broke the plaster off and am going to try it again tomorrow.  Thanks again for the inputs!!!   :hello:

the 4x4 i shot last year stayed in the thick stuff so much that he actually had moss growing on the base of his antlers. it all came off when i got him mounted but it would have been cool to have it on there for the mount

My thoughts exactly.  To each his own but I love it - the more shavings the better.
