Suggestions for a rangefinder

I'm in the market for a rangefinder and was looking for suggestions. I'm primarily going to use it while deer hunting and might have distances past 500 yards. I have a Nikon scope and love it so I was looking at the Nikon rangefinders as well. I have read reviews and they have been good and bad so I thought I would ask which one everyone here uses and likes or maybe doesn't like. Looking to stay in the $300 range.

bushnell yardage pro is right in that price range. allot of people use it and i have one but i upgraded to a leica "spelling probably wrong" lol but it is about 600 and i think it is the crf and is good to 1200 yards but the yardage pro is one to check out

In your price range it is pretty hard to beat the Nikon 550. After owning two of the more expensive units I love mine.
Quick, easy, reliable.One button push. And a very uncluttered screen.

I have a bushnell legend and it works great. Got the bushnell arc 1000 this year and it has worked great as well.

Cabelas had the leoupold 750 yard range finder on sale for 199 plus free shipping last week- I know this cause I sold mine on Ebay- I got 175 for mine that was used.

I bought a Nikon 550 Rifle last year at sportsman wholesale on sale for 200.00. took it hunting, could not get a reading at all at 3-400 yards unless sun was out bright, or target was VERY reflective
Sold it for 150.00. Looked at Leupold, dont like it. I am getting Leica 1200.

I have a Bushnell Legend.  It's a few years old, but works great.  The most important feature for me is it absolutely must be waterproof.  I paid a lot extra at the time for that, but I couldn't stand the idea of ruining an electronic gadget in the rain.  The only feature I'd like to have is red text on the display instead of black.  My brother has a Leica with red display and it's a lot easier to read in low light.

I have a Nikon Rifle hunter with the angle compensator. I use it for rifle and bow. Works pretty good. I can't kill anything past 500yards so I don't really care past that.  I'd recommend it, and friends have recommended the same.

I believe you would be much happier buying a Leica. I saw a 1200 on gunbroker for $375 the other day. They get great reviews. I have one after dealing with the other brands. It is clearer easier, reliable, and the numbers read better in all light.

I've had 3....I had a old Bushnel which was ok....I have a Leica which is great with great optics and has the red led light inside and is easy to see and read. I also have a Nikon with the angle compensator which I use most the time for the angle compensator which I love for bowhunting, works great. If your rifle hunting and the angles don't matter as much the Leica is great, if you bowhunt and the angles do matter, the Nikon (until Leica comes out with one).  DD

i have a nikon, but my buddy has a leica. i recomend the leica.....

Thanks everyone. I'm going to Cabelas tomorrow so I'll take a look at all the suggestions. Is the angle compensator a feature I should look for? I know they have them on some of the Nikon ones but not all of them.

If you're gona use it for bow or 22lr or 17hmr max range work its important but if its just rifle then not quite as important.
