tuff call really. if its for YOU and might get used buy a woman or amall child occasionally but youll be carrying it primaraly then I would go with a 25-06 if its for the small woman or child and you might carry it occasionally for predators then i'd go with a youth model .243.

.25-06

After owning one I would never buy a .243 again.

After killing a few deer with the 243(starting in 1969) and the 250 Savage, go with the 25-06 and don't look back.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Well I was thing me a predator gun an my girl and boy can shoot it too when they go:) I really want a 25wssm upper but I can live with a  hole new bolt gun. I can pick up a 25-06 or 243 with a mid heavy barrel for 540. I do reload so the price to shot will be lower then factory ammo. I've really thought about the 257 wby too but don't see a need to pay that much more for brass to gain that much fps. Heck if the tax man is good maybe both

257 WBY is an awesome gun, and the 25:06 is nearly as good, both are much better than any 24's. Not that I don't like 24's, but they do not compare to the 25's. :twocents:

:)Not to hijak, but I am thinking 7mm-08, if you really want ot include elk. very low recoil, good balistics, hits harder due to 100-175 grain bullets.

Yeah but it's not as flat shooting. The 75gr pill at 3700 is a very flat shooting round for yotes that are smart an hang up at 500yds:) if I did a 7mm it would be a 284win

OKay, I'll jump in here too. I say 25-06 Tikka T3. LIght enough for a female or young teen to handle, recoil is slightly more than the 243 but they will never feel it when they shoot it at an animal.

why does it have to be one or the other? :dunno:  Just get both! :chuckle:  That's what I did, like them both, killed deer and elk with both and many yotes.

That sounds like sage advice.... :chuckle:

btw, you are going to want a good dose of imr 4831 under a 87gr bullet to get into the 36-3800 fps and slay some long distance dogs. same powder and a 100gr tsx and you can kill everything in washington out to as far as the eye can see........go quarter bore. and if the brass cost wiggs you out on the roy, just load 7mm brass. works like butter

I agree, I really love my 25-06. It is pretty tough on pelts, but if that's not a concern I can tell you if you hit em they will GO DOWN!
