protecting decoys

I just read on a review of a set of decoys from cabelas someone mentioned spray painting them clear for a protective layer. Has anyone tried this? I thought about it but figured I would ask the experts first.

I did it to a set a few years ago, it seemed to work good, untill I set them out on a blue bird day....bad idea, they were to shiny and did not look even close to natural. The birds didnt like them either.

Every decoy I have is sprayed with 1311, a matte clear very durable. It helps my GHG dekes from chipping for at least a couple seasons.

All my buddies and I do this with a matte clear coat. It does not glare in the sun at all and protects the paint.

You can also use 12 slot bags to help protect them or sell them at the end of each season and buy new.
