I filled both mine with wet cob.  Some deer eat it, most ignore it.  At least that's my experience.  I put them out to supplement their nutrition more than anything.  I heard alfalfa is hard for deer to digest, unless it's lush fresh plant form as opposed to bailed or pellets.  I haven't really researched it, just something I heard.

Yeah I don't know that about the alfalfa pellets the ones I am using are actual deer feed just alfalfa is part of it.  THey basically look like chewed up grass if they get any bit wet.  I have heard that pea pellet's are the way to go so that is what I am going to try moving forward I guess really good protein for them..

"meat goat" feed (pellets) is also good, 16% protien but spendy at $14/bag compared to livestock (pellets and flattened corn) at $10/bag and I think 12 or 14% protien.  Both from Dels.  The deer by us seem to like both of them.

No...it's not to late....do it now.  I'm heading over to stevens county in a week to set some up.  Whitetails might be different than blacktails....they tend to stay in the general vacinity most of the year, and from what I have seen up there...they do not start dropping until mid Feb.     North Stevens county that is.

Have you guys considered what a bear will do to those things? I like the tube idea but am thinking it will get ripped off the tree. Can't wait to see some pictures of the success.

Hopefully the bears will still be a little sleepy when the shedding occurs.

I've thought about this too but figure there's only one way to find out, right?  It's a cheap experiment in any case.

It has been out all week but have not made it back to the property yet.  I will be out there this weekend with no internet but hopefully come Monday night I should have at least pictures hopefully sheds but not counting on it because I think it may be a little early still...
