You might want to put James Madison up there.  He wrote the Bill Of Rights...

I used to give credit all to James Madison for penning the Bill of Rights right from his own mind. Until I read more and found out that he was not even a catalyst for the proposal and that instead it was George Mason had originally penned the blueprint inside the Virginia Declaration of rights. In fact it was Mason and Thomas Jefferson that spearheaded them into reality. I thank Madison but really view him as a reluctant piece of the action. His words turned out better than Mason's in the end though. Doesn't have much to do with hunting rights IMHO.

I thought about that, I was thinking more in terms of preserving existing rights and/ or adding to what we have. I'll add him anyway.

I added Clinton also. I know a lot of people can't get around his personal issues, but he did preserve more land for outdoor recreation than any President in history.

you might want to consider what rights ole teddy was all for taking away also. maybe that would be a good poll. "does anybody know what he actually stood for?" id like to see the results of that one.
No people will tamely surrender their Liberties, nor can any be easily subdued, when knowledge is diffused and Virtue is preserved. On the Contrary, when People are universally ignorant, and debauched in their Manners, they will sink under their own weight without the Aid of foreign Invaders.

I never read that Clinton was opposed to hunting, where did you see that? Was it some type of bill?

don't know that he was apposed to hunting, wouldn't surprise me though. they were/are apposed to use being able to use our public lands. that's the level of "preservation" they wanted. pay taxes on it but don't use it, gotta save it for the polar bears don't ya know

BULLY BOY
The Truth About Theodore Roosevelt's Legacy

by Jim Powell

CHAPTER 1:
WHY DID ROOSEVELT BELIEVE MORE GOVERNMENT POWER WOULD SOLVE PEOPLE'S PROBLEMS?

Theodore Roosevelt believed that if only politicians had enough power, they could solve the world's problems. Heralding the era of big government, he urged "far more active governmental interference with social and economic conditions in this country." Although Abraham Lincoln dramatically expanded the power of the federal government during wartime, the peacetime expansion of federal power began with Theodore Roosevelt. Disregarding the dismal history of arbitrary and oppressive government, he declared, "I think [the presidency] should be a very powerful office, and I think the President should be a very strong man who uses without hesitation every power the position yields." At another point he said, "I believe in a strong executive. I believe in power."

hmmm sound familiar? but yup he liked to hunt
