I think you made a good choice Jack. I had a Vias on my old 338 RUM years ago, was not impressed, with either the recoil reduction, or the ear splitting boom it produced. Make sure to post the results on your DE brake. Later

Almost all of the benchrest guys go with the Vais brake, the recoil reduction on my
300 win was a drastic reduction and I don't think it is very loud at all, look at how they are designed, with holes coming out the front, lots of the sound and blast are going forward!Best design IMO.

My 300 WM with a DE brake.......It is a great brake. Good choice, Jackelope. I am pushing 190 Bergers pretty hard and it kicks like a *censored* cat.

Dropped off my odd 6 to Brian at Spot on Smithing today. I can not wait to get it back. He seems to know his stuff. Jackelop, make sure to post some pics and what you think of the shops work when it is all done as will I.

No fluting. Fluting brings me back to another post you made on this topic the last time we talked about this...regarding a pro hunter barrel is .260 or the like. I decided I would probably want a smaller caliber barrel at some point so when I do I will go with a Pro Hunter barrel that will already be fluted. That will be my move towards a lightweight barrel for this rig. The smith wasn't comfortable fluting this barrel because of pressure concerns, said it could be done but they'd have to send it out somewhere to be done and I didn't want to do all.

I understand. Well, if there's a day when you want that one fluted. There is a guy in Puyallup that does it.
Get a scope on that thing and go shoot!
