300 Remington Ultra Mag
« on: January 14, 2010, 05:42:39 PM »
I may be reloading the 300 Ultra Mag cartridge for a friend of mine before next season.  What are some of your favorite loads?

Thanks,

my friend that i shoot with allot has a 300 ultra we reload allot together. we are both huge nosler partition fans and most all of are hunting loads use them. hodgdons powder has a great on site loading manual with lots of loads. his gun likes the 180 nos part with 87 grains of h4831 min powder for that bullet weight from there site is 84 and max is 89 he runs about 3100fps with that load and they shoot great.

200gr accubond and 95.5gr of retumbo.
The 208 gr A-max also shoots real well in my rifle when seated out long but thier so long and pointy that I cant run those loads through the mag. well.

damn those things hold a lot of horsepower.

87.5 gr of imr 7828 works real well with a 200 gr accubond in my remmy 700. I also like imr 4350 for 180 grain accubonds. As much as I like the AB I am thinkin if going to the 210 berger. With a BC of over .6 you almost cant beat it. I am just waiting to here more good reports on the bergers performance with big game. I have found that the 300 rum is not a picky caliber I have achieved good accuracy and consistant velocity with many different loads. I just like to use imr powders with because it seems you get a better bang for buck as far as grains per foot of velocity, because as you can see a pound of powder doesn't get you very far.

Red Dawg, I've only shot at and killed one big game animal with bergers, and at 530yds, here was the result.  We just switched to the bergers this year and are very impressed with all aspects of the bullet.

I think long range they do killer....but what if you smash into one at 32-3300 fps? I bailed on the scirocco after killing an elk at 20 paces with my ultra.

I'm using 95gr's of reloader 25 with 190gr berger bullets. I have shot a lot of different loads through 3 different 700 rem's and they shoot most very well.

Not quite understanding your question, high country.  Previously, I shot only scirocco bonded bullets at 3380 fps.  Killed several muleys at under 100 yds, with minimal meat damage and great knockdown power.
