550 paracord

Any body use paracord? I like how the survivorman and bear uses it to make bracelets.  Usually the bracelets contain at least 10 ft of the cord, sometimes 20 if you double braid it. Any one else think the sky is the limit with this stuff?  I have a lot of rolls and I am going to make up a bunch of bracelets
and try to pedel at the fair, shows, craigslist and whereever else.
Thousands of uses.

So tell me your experience with paracord. Anybody have any cool stories?

As a Naval Parachute Rigger for the last 18 years..... 550 Cord is the bomb. I carry two rolls in the box in the truck, all my boot laces are 550 cord and my pack frames have at least 25 yards each on them, never know when your gonna need it!  Field and Stream did an article last year about how to make a rifle sling out of it. Wish I could find it.... It also makes excellent pull ties for your zippers on your gear.

I can make the slings with the same method of making the bracelet with a double braid.  It would be a lot of paracord though and take some time to get it out.

I'm going to make a couple lanyards as well for duck calls and sell them in the classifieds.

I use it alot, have it wrapped on my catquiver, a loop of it in my pack and a roll in my truck.  I even use it for mag pullers for the AR.  Remove the inner cords and run a piece under the floorplate of the Mag and tie it off in a loop.  You can now use it to quickly remove a sticky mag, catch it with the pinkie while doing a tactical reload.  I have a clip on my vest and if I have a partial mag I don't want to drop I clip the loop on it and let the spare mag hang.

I used to have 2 rolls of it from when I was in the Army. Several moves later and I cannot find them. 

My boot laces, dog tag chain was covered in the outer sheath, various attachments on my large ruck was with 550 cord. Love the stuff.

550# test for the good 550 paracord stuff - 3/16" .   Like to try some of the new 3/16" super cord - 5000# test.  Could drag an elk out with that.  Costs a lot more of course.

Just did this project.  The handle is cord wrapped ( cheap Walmart cord) then super glue over that.  It provides a great grip and doesn't budge.

Use it as lanyards on all my trapping gear.  Keep 20' in my mini bug out bag too

love the stuff, got a roll in the garage, in the truck and various lengths in all my packs.  ive made several lanyards for various calls for myself and various friends and a couple of rifle slings.  i made one of the slings as mentioned from F&S came out nice, uses a lot of cord but the guy i gave it to says he likes having that much cord strapped to his rifle.

Looks good cylvertip, what knot/braid did you use on the butt of the knife?

There are more pics on this forum (general gear) under the thread Grayman Pounder.  The butt end is just double wrapped, and then soaked in super glue.  Nothing fancy, but very effective.  There's a link to the blade forums article that got me on this project - with more pics and explanations of it.

my wife makes the rifle slings for me. it takes about 55' of 550 cord to make 1 sling.
then if i need it while i am out i can take as much as i need and still have a sling.

Great looking sling!  It looks like a flat sinnet, but do you happen to know which one?  I'd be interested in knowing. 

I use para cord a lot as well, I also use braided mending twine, or ganion (sp?) material.  I still have a bunch of net needles, and carry a couple of them in my pack with different size twine on them.  Keeps it handy, doesn't get tangled, and I can really put a lash-up on something if I have a full needle!

I get my para cord out of the Sportsman's Guide.  It's not the real deal, but it's cheap and it works.  Any commercial fishing supply place will have a bunch of twine and net needles to keep it on.

Parachute Cord, the Duct tape of rope...If you can't fix it or build it with duct tape or 550 it can't be fixed or built.

I know what 550 is!     I was being a smart @ss.  I keep 50' on my packboard and another in my day pack.  Plus an extra 100' of it in my tool box.  Along with severl rolls of duck tape.

 I even keep some in my shop along with duct tape.

Sorry my smart  meter is not tuned in this morning.  Usually takes about 4 cups of joe to get in running right.
