Turkeys attracted to frogs croaking?
« on: January 30, 2010, 06:16:59 AM »
I had a person I met in a sporting goods store tell me that croaking frogs attract turkeys, anybody ever hear of such?  He said he could imitate a frog croaking and it works.

Turkeys will eat small amphibians so it wouldn't surprise me that much that they would be attracted to the sound ... first time I've heard of someone "croaking" a turkey in though ... seems this would be a last resort.  Think he might of been "croaking" you in a bit?  :chuckle:

There are times I have been sitting in a blind willing to try anything.  I have wondered about cricket noises since they eat the heck out of them and grasshoppers.

By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Funny you mention crickets.  On a southern board I 'm on, there was a guy that in his posts promoted himself as an expert turkey hunter, using crickets in front of his blind to attract turkeys, then bragged on it.  Needless to say along with all his other goofy posts he has been banned several times, but keeps returning under different names.  As soon as someone on the board figures it out that he might be back with a new name, the cricket jokes start. :chuckle:

The research that is currently going on for turkey diet..(study needing turkey crops)  IS looking at amphibians and the type wild turkeys may eat.  Also looking at seed types, etc..It will be very interesting.  They are even collecting turkey droppings along with crops hunters send in.
Wild Turkey, Walleyes, Whitetails and Wapiti..These are a few of my favorite things!!
