RL-17
« on: February 14, 2010, 12:27:31 PM »
Looking for some data on Alliant's Rl-17. They have a little bit of info on their site but I am looking for more Data on 140 grain pill in a 270 wsm. For now I will just use the same data for imr-4350 but just wonderin if anyone had something better than that. Also do you know of any place that sells Accurate Magpro powder. Thanks

Cableas has the Magpro powder or did last time we needed any.  As for the RL17, sorry, no experience.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

well I was finally able to go out and shoot my first rl-17 loads in the 270 wsm. With no data to start with I used imr-4350 data. I use the nosler book mostly with a 140 gr accubond so I started with 58.5 grains of 17 and worked my way up to 62 gr. My velocities started out with 3050 fps and at 62 gr of 17 I was at 3250. I am very pleased with this powder and I still have not seen any real pressure signs to boot. My grouping ranged from 1" to .4" and the more powder I loaded the tighter the groups got. I am going to keep going up slowly since my goal is 3300 at the muzzle. That would put me at only a 30" drop at 500 yards sighted in dead on at 200 yards.
