Shotgun gunsmith needed
« on: February 16, 2010, 03:19:05 PM »
I have a Remington Express 870.  I removed the pump/slide assembly/bolt to clean them, and they will not go back in.

I've tried everything including some new parts.

I am asking for a reference for a gunsmith that works on shotguns.  I live in the Bellevue area.

My stepdad's smith is Mike Nelson out of Tacoma, he doesn't mess around...You might check with Brian Potts from spot-on smithing in sammamish. I will see him in a couple minutes hopefully when he drops off my Encore barrel. I'll ask him if you want.

Is this the first time you've had it apart? If I was closer I'd see if I could be of any help. I think I could take apart an 870 and put it back together blindfolded. I've been doing it for almost 30 years.

put the bolt assembly on the slide and start to slide it in the reciver until it stops then you have to press the right shell latch in the bolt will start to slide in a little more then press the left shell latch in and it will slide in the rest of the way

I'm not a licensed gunsmith, but I am a Remington Armorer.  The difference is gunsmiths fix things, armorers replace things that are broke  :chuckle:

If I can get my dog leveled out "have to take him back in for more work next week, I can try and fix it for you when I go down to Isaquahh to help out Galpster.

I was going to try to explain it how mrolen did, but I don't know what to call all the different parts. I just know how to take them apart and put them back together.

Good post mrolen.

Thanks for the info.  I took the 870 to Brian (Spot On Smithing)  After working on it for 45 minutes he concluded it had some defective parts.  He said it should be ready in a few weeks
