been trying to find a place to find rock chucks thats open to the public does anybody know anything about Douglas creek? or twin lakes BLM area we found quite a few rock chucks around palouse falls last year but they looked like they were actually in the park area and we didnt know if we were allowed to shoot there so we let them pass. looking for a reason to get out of the house for awhile and if i get a chance at some rock chucks so much the better. any help is appreciated

not a whole lot of chuck shooting anymore and what few spots are left most guys are pretty closed lip about it not live sage rats or diggers that are everyware. if i knew of a place that way but i don't know any that are public.

FYI for those that do not know.

There are a few species of Rock Chuck in WA that are protected and against the law to shoot.  Yeah I know WTH?  Just thought I would pass the info along.  I believe the only one you are allowed to shoot are the yellow belly.  It has been about 2 years since I looked into it so you may want to call F&W and ask.

I think the protected ones are in the alpine areas. Hoary marmot? I think that's what I saw in the Pasayten Wilderness and got a bunch of pictures of. Looked it up later and I think that's what it was, if I remember right. Most people aren't going to go to that much work to get to them.

Good luck finding rockchucks in the swanson wildlife area. I live just to the north of it and i go look for them all time out there and there aint squat for chucks out there.You need to go south more Good luck

Get a silencer for your pistol and check out riverfront park in spokane right by the carousel.

I know of a couple areas close to Palouse Falls, but they're off limits by the locals until "target multiplication season" (after they have babies).

PM me in a month or two and we can go smack 'em.

I usually wait until after the little ones are out and about that way, most likely, there will be more shooting for future generations.

There used to be some good shooting out buy Palmer lake near Loomis but it's all bought up and posted now.

I didn't mean they're legally off limits, but the guys here don't like to shoot them until after they've given birth. 

The babies make for better bragging rights when you hit them at 300yds

I see alot of them around the Spokane area but they are never in any areas you can shoot them is the problem.  Same with sage rats.  They are never in the places you can whack the little buggers.

You havn't been out much. There are places around Spokane that you can shoot em.

Yes bobcat I believe that is one of them.  When I talked to F&G about it a while back it seamed like there were 2 or 3 you couldn't shoot and only 1 you could.  I believe Yellow Belly was the one you could.  Don't quote me on that.
