New Coyote gun finished
« on: March 11, 2010, 03:24:05 PM »
Finished off my ultimate Coyote getter yesterday, even put some rounds down range.  Steyr M-95 action chambered in 20-06.  Remington 204 Ruger takeoff barrel.  60gr of H-1000 CCI LR Mag primers and 34gr Dogtown bullet.  This has a little zip to it.  Haven't run it across the Chrono yet, next trip out I will try.  Larry

Is this your own wild cat? What's Saami spec? Cup? PSI?  What velocity do you think you'll be able to get with that?

Far as I know it is the only one.  I don't know the velocity, depends whether I run it to 30-06 pressures or to 25-06 pressures.  I made the cases from 25-06 brass, one pass through the sizer and it is done.  Larry

P.O. Ackley had a 22-06 back in the 1930's and it seemed to be overbored. Interesting to see what velocities you get out ot it.

I haven't shot for a group yet, yesterday I just sand bagged it in and pulled the trigger with a string.  Put 7 rounds through it and it seems fine the primers aren't really too flat, so I may move the load up some.  Left case is 60gr h1000 and the right is 57gr of H1000.  Looks good to me.  Larry

Anybody care to take a guess at velocity?  I say over 5500fps if the bullet can hold together? What twist is it?

Ah man!  You beat me to it!  I'll say 3800fps.  I was thinking about a 20 WSSM for my next project, short, fat powder column...

At 49,000 psi 3,900 is predicted, at 60,000psi 4,400+, but the calculators aren't very accurate when dealing with extreme case sizes.  I may try running some 40gr bullets through it, that may be a little more to it's liking.  I will let you know, I could go to some faster powder, but I started slow just to be safe.  Larry

Wow I was way off. I thought it would compete with the .22-243 Middlestead @ 5278 fps?  Cool project though.  :)

The velocity just really isn't reliably predictable, you just need to measure what you get.  I will have some numbers in a while, but it is impressive when it fires.  Larry
