I've never heard of charters out of BC  but you can get charters out of westport in the summer. Its a 2+ day trip.

I have always wanted to do it but never had the boat for it.  Now that we have a 25 foot sportfisher, this is the year...  The biggest problem is gas.  You need enough range.

I know bookworm went a few years ago out of Westport and had a good time.  Maybe he will see the thread and post some info?

I went a couple of years ago out of Westport. We left friday night to get to the fishing grounds about 40 miles off the mouth of the Columbia. It is the most fun you can have on light tackle. The trip was supposed to be for 2 plus days but our second day was ruined by weather. Still brought home 9 tuna. We took them to the cannery right there in Westport, back then they gave you a pretty fair trade. Once you have fresh tuna you will never eat store bought again. Someday I will make another trip out.

My inlaws own charters in Illwaco but they don't charter for tuna. They do go on thier own every year but I haven't had a chance to make it. I does sound like a lot of fun.

I've heard it's a ton of fun too  ;),  it's about 600 bucks for the day and you come home with more tuna than you know what to do with. I guess canning it is the way to go,not sure about smoking it yet.
What's making me consider not going is the fact that I've read somewhere that Albacore has the highest mecury levels.

NO i wouldnt say lbs for lbs...... they fight completely different.... were you will feel the tug of a 40lb salmon on your line , white nuckled and hoping for it to not break free sometimes jumping out of the water and splashing. fighting for there life....sometimes running upstream and then heading back down. just un-predictable....you will do the same whit clinched nuckles thing to a tuna except he will just pull a continuous amount of line straight down(deep) and spool you till you are almost thinking you are going to loose him and then he will stop and you will reel in the 300-500 yrds of line that was just spooled out and you will get him about 10yrds to 10 feet from the side of the boat. great feeling to see what has hit. just about the time you actually get to see what you have on(because you have no idea as to what is on your line except for the feeling of the fight) and then he will spool you again. staying under the water the whole time......and you will continue this 2-5 times depending on the tuna and then hes all yours...........tuna are a bit more predictable and they dont really fight.....they just make you reel in alot of line............

GREAT LOOKING TUNA.......LOOKS LIKE YOU GOT ALOT OF REALLY GOOD SAILFISH OR MARLIN BAIT THERE ALSO(THE SMALLER MACOREL TUNAS)

AHHHHHH, I MISS SPORTS FISHING............
