Ruger GP100
« on: April 29, 2010, 12:06:33 PM »
Hey guys,
I've been looking at the Ruger GP100 .357 mag stainless with 6" barrel for a long time now.  Just looking to get some feedback and see what people think.  Thanks

Rugers are some of the strongest revolvers made. Unless you do something stupid, they'll last forever.

forgive me for being stupid but what is a fence gun?

It's for shooting fences when they get in your way.

I've had the 6" barrell stainless model in .357 for over 20 years now.  It is my primary side arm when I carry while hunting.  I love it and would buy another in a heartbeat.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

I had one, blued.   I was never to happy with it.  Even from a rest, shooting single action I could never get good groups with it. Think I got a lemon? Everything else I was shooting that way, Taurus, S&W, Redhawk grouped great.

The only thing I noticed holding it in the store was that the front sight was black and might make it hard to pick up dark targets.  Any suggestions for this? Is this even an issue?

The front sight is black so it won't glare from overhead light.   Yes, you can get a fiber sight for it.  I know people that are using GP100's in stock form in competition doing quite well against the Smiths of the mid 70's. That says something. There was a bad run of them a few years ago, but the majority are great guns with normal Ruger fit/finish, and durability.
