Elk permits count: 2010 vs. 2009
« on: May 02, 2010, 02:51:43 PM »
For those who think the new permit system is great, I have some good news for you.

Here is the count of total elk permits offered for the last two years:
2009: 7,180 total elk permits available.
2010: 6,602 total elk permits available.

Not only are you paying more this year, you have almost 600 fewer tags available to apply for.  Now how you can beat a deal like that?

Something about "Tastes bad. Less filling" comes to mind...

I forgot to add the 2009 "Applications" total : 137,516.  That is the total number of applications, not applicants.  An applicant in 2009 could apply for up to four hunt choices.

I dislike the 2010 system, it sucks.  Guys purely dedicated to putting in for Bull tags just got their odds cut in half.

Good it is about time our DFW became more proactive about managing our elk herds!!

I just counted and came up with 6,667 permits for 2010. Also counted 7,048 for 2009 for a loss of 381 tags. Which equates to a total of 5% of tags for elk. Quite a loss, but I hope it will benefit the overall bull:cow ratios, specifically in the 300 GMU's.

I have been on this discussion all flippen morning and it does not matter because they have us my the nuts knowing that we love to hunt and we will pay for it no matter what the cost... Well I breathe to hunt and fish and I am willing to take a year off to get there attention... I fill most of my tags every year BUT I also spend thousands doing So......It is time to take a stand.. we should be no different than IDAHO OR MONTANA because we have the resourses to do so but not the management...NO I dont blame the DEPT. I BLAME THE IDIOTS IN OFFICE......

I think the more appropriate word there would have been "issued."

The 6,946 number is the number of permits issued. 7,206 was the number of permits available.
