mounts/rings vs. scope
« on: May 06, 2010, 12:13:48 PM »
I have a stock Savage/Stevens 200 .308 that came with a bargain basement Bushnell scope and who knows what mounts and rings.  If I were to change one right now, for better accuracy and zero holding, would you change the scope and keep the mounts/rings it has or would you start with the mounts/rings and keep the Bushnell scope?

i would always get a better scope. most rings will hold zero just fine they might not be high quality but they should work for you. but you are talking maybe 200-1000 for a new scope and 35-80 for rings so it just depends on your wallet in my  :twocents:  you can sell the other bushnell that came on it or maybe put it on a 22 or 17 or somthing smaller that it should be fine on.

that is what i would suggest doing. i have some plain jane rings on some rifles and never had any problems with them not holding zero. there should be some good options for you around the 200 mark i think the rifleman leupold's are right around that.

for $200.00 into a scope talk to Elknut1 about a Vortex Diamondback. He'll sell you one and deliver it to your door for that money. Mount it in whatever 1" rings you have...just make sure everything is solid  and the screws don't come loose. You could always upgrade later. I wouldn't spend $80 on another scope...keep saving.
