AK report
« on: May 08, 2010, 03:14:39 AM »
Well,
I have been in Alaska 10 days now.
The first week of hunting was a little slow, but one guy off the boat did manage to kill a decent black boar.
We started hunting browns today, saw several. passed up about a 8'6" boar and saw one monster but couldnt get within range before he vanished.
Its late here and this cell internet on the boat is slow so ill just load a few pics for now, but there will be plenty to come.

Looks to be one heck of a trip. The first black bear taken appears to be pretty darn big. Great pics. What kind of bird is that? How close were you to the brown bear? Look forward to more from you.

Filmed and took pics of this Sow for about 15 mins today from around a hundred yards.
I also filmed a pod of about 30 Orca whales today. Now they are cool critters. Was to busy filming to get any stills though

I am spending the whole month up here...

We found a monster today, had him at under 300 yards twice but he slipped away both times before a shot.
He was prob close to a 10' boar..

The hunts are kinda broke up every other week going from browns to blacks.
That sow was a brown.

I was busy roleing film with the big camera yesterday and didnt get any still shots of that big boar. I will try and get some today.

Very impressive. Sure would like to have a better understanding of what you are doing up there. Obviously filming some bear hunts. Are you going to do some hunting yourself? Are you a guide or just tagging along? Are you making a hunting DVD? Tell us more please.

Great pics!

One of my best friends was born in Sitka and he lived on a cannery just outside of Juneau during the summers. I was fortunate enough to spend a few weeks during several summers with him and see the beauty of AK. It is absolutely amazing! I didn't get to see as much on Annette Island in support of Operation Alaska Road with the Marine reserve, but still had a good time.

I looked up Alaska's hunting regs online because I was curious about moose and brown bear hunting. It looks like for a non-resident to hunt just about anything you need a guide. I guess it will be a while before I have the time and money for that.

Let me answer a few questions here...

These are not DIY hunts, in AK a none resident cannot hunt brown bears or grizzly bears without a guide.
Currently I am just filming. if time permits I may be able to spend some time black bear hunting myself.

I am filming for a project we are calling "Grizzinator" it may end up us a DVD or it may end up as a ongoing show, only time will tell.

We are currently weathering a 90 MPH storm anchored in a semi protected cove. This storm is incredible and the bears knew it was coming which is why we were able to harvest two monster yesterday like we did.

In Alaska you hunt with a second degree of kindred and are not required to hunt with a guide.
