white deer in the yakima canyon
« on: May 10, 2010, 04:47:09 PM »
I was heading down to Yakima from Ellensburg on friday. I got about half way down the canyon and saw 4 does standing just 30 yards off the road. I was about 1 mile towards Ellensburg from the monument rock. Down in the ditch I thought i was seeing someones farm goat but it was a deer. He was white with brown spots. It was a buck he had about 4 inches of new antlers growing. Cool for me and my 7 year old son to see. I was so mad because I didnt have my camera to take any picture :bash: :bash: :bash:. He was a little smaller body size than the does.

He was all white with a brown stripe down his back. Small spots all over. his tail looked just like a blacktail deer but it was white all around the edges and a light brown center. The deer he was running with were mule deer.

There are quite a few piebald deer in Yakima county. Did it look like this?

I saw this one in the canyon early this spring. No good photos but here you go. I guess there are a few running around there.

I've went twice to photograph a doe in the canyon, SAME area, but have missed her both times.  Cool that there might be two of them now.  Increases my odds a little.

Very cool.

It would be cool to see a monster buck like that in a few years. Probably won't last that long in WA.

I've photographed piebald fawns in the same bowl the past two winters. Both years it was twin fawns with a normal colored mother. I saw this year's fawns in September and again in January. Must be a gene for them in the area that I've been seeing them...in Kittitas county.

I have a very poor photo of a piebald while hunting up in Swakane. The one I saw was almost all white with a few spots.
Gathering is easy. Hunting is a challenge.
