Best load for 270 win
« on: May 10, 2010, 07:44:27 PM »
I just bought a new 270 win and was wondering what other think the best load is. I do not reload so I’m looking for store ammo. I was thinking of federal/fusion 150 ??? I'll be hunting whitetail and mule deer. I'll be hunting central Idaho and northern/north east Washington. Most likely no shoots over 350 yards.  :dunno:

That Federal Fusion load sounds pretty good.  I haven't tried them but if they shoot well in your rifle that should be a good load.  Pretty reasonably priced too for a bonded bullet.  You might even try the 130 gr Fusion and see if it shoots any better in your rifle.  If I didn't reload, I think that would be one of the loads on the top of my list to try. :twocents:

130gr Fusions is what I use in my .270 great bullet very accurate. Also use 175gr fusion for my 7mm rem mag. Very happy with them in both guns. :twocents:

I shoot 130gr Fusions out of my .270

They're very accurate and were priced less than Remington Core-Lokts the last couple times I've bought them.

buckmasterwa shot a mule deer at sixty yards with a 100 grain fusion out of his .243 at 60 yards, the bullet hit a rip and shattered into a million pieces.  It looked like someone shot him with a target load out of a 12 gauge.  barely got one lung.  That's the only experience I have with them.  I shoot 130 grain hornady interbonds out of my wife's .270 and love em.  95-98 percent weight retention and cheaper than Barnes bullets or accubonds.  Remember too that deer aren't very hard to kill so expensive bullets aren't really necessary.  Remington Core Lokts will kill a deer pretty good for pretty cheap.
It is foolish and wrong to mourn these men.  Rather, we should thank god that such men lived.  -General George S. Patton

Core Lokts are cheap but they will blow up when bone is hit as well. Bonded bullets are a wise choice if you're willing to spend a little extra money. Nosler Accubond or Hornady Interbond, doesn't really matter. Either one would be a good choice. And in a 270, anything from 130 to 150 grains is good. The most important thing is a bullet that shoots accurately out of your rifle.

Having shot a .270 for over 30 yrs now I would say the best load i have used forever is the 140 gr hornaday boattail loaded with 54gr IMR powder.. This bullet holds together well and I have shot numberous bear at different ranges and the result is always the same DEADLY.......... ;)

I just got a new .270 as well and have been toying with different factory ammo. From what I read, the "standard" in .270 winchester loads has been a 130 grain bullet, read on another forum that the 150's tend not to group as well.

I sighted it in with some core-lokt 150's that my girlfriend bought for me and man do they group nice, at least out of my gun (savage 110 accutrigger). Going to try the 130's and see how they do, try some hornady 130gr SST's. I'll post back and let you know how it worked.

Depends on the gun , my m77s shot the fedral premium tbc in 140 grain the best, I also really like the hornady loads aswell.

I have a .270 that loves 130gr ammo. It throws 150's all over the paper....  We have used old fangled Sierra boat tail bullets in it since probably 1965 and they don't explode and stay together rather nicely. 4320 powder.....
