older canon lenses adaptor question
« on: May 12, 2010, 11:23:06 AM »
My grandma gave me a couple great lenses that she used on her 35mm canon camera from the late 70's, early 80's. One is a 80-205mm, a 2x converter, a 28-80 2.8Fmm, and a 50mm 1.8F. I have a new canon eos XSi, they don't fit my camera. Is there an adaptor that would make them work? is it worth doing?

thanks

Chris

I don't think there is something you can buy, but I know some guys retro kit their lens.

I don't think you can get an adapter for the EOS cameras to use with Canon's old FD mount lenses.  I also have 2 old Canon bodys and 5 lenses.  The mount on the EOS is a larger diameter than the old FD mounts.  Also, even if you could find one, since the FD lenses don't have electronic components to "talk" to the body all functionality of the body would have to be turned to fully manual.  A quick look in McBroom's Camera Blue Book from 1995 seems to confirm that they won't fit or work with the EOS cameras.  It's an old book, though, so maybe they've made something since then.

It can be done.  here are a couple of links.  Google "FD-EOS converter".  There are quite a few issues with it though.
