Cow Hunt
« on: May 15, 2010, 10:20:28 PM »
So the hunting group was talking the other night about an out of state cow hunt.  Thought it might be fun w/ the old men to all bring elk home one year.  We put in for a group this year for different cow hunts in WA but were thinking of an out of state cow hunt.  Anybody have any suggestions on where to go where the draw would be fairly easy and the hunting would be fairly easy for the old men?

Colorado has some advertisements in the back of outdoor life for cow hunts with outfitters that look pretty good, you might check there. Colorado has tons of elk. Don't know about the draw odds/regulations but it reads like its a guaranteed tag with an outfitter. Not sure though. You will pay for the tags.

I think tags for cow elk in Colorado are only about $250. So that tag isn't bad, but  it is a bit of a drive.

I guess prices have gone up a little since I last looked. It's $354 now for a cow elk license/tag. But still, that's $190 less than for a bull.

Chek out Wyoming. They use to have a cow hunt in Jackson Hole. Pretty cheep, and the tags were over the counter.

I've talked to a rancher in NM before about cow elk hunts.  They have landowners permits.  Pretty darn reasonable.
