Nice Brown
« on: May 21, 2010, 09:47:36 PM »
Ok , so I cast out my fly rod with a leech pattern on an E side WA lake. I start messing with the motor and hand my rod to my wife. About 2minutes later, while I am still working on the motor, my wife says that she is snagged. I take the rod from her and a nice fish on. I give the rod back to her and after a 10 minute she pulls up this brown. :bash:

She always outfishes me  :'( :'(

THat's awesome!  Used to see a lot more big browns back when I was a kid.  Now they're rare.

Ribka, do you have any close ups of the fish? It has awesome colors and would make some good reference pictures.

When I was in High School and learning how to flyfish, I used to spend every evening I could down on my honey hole on the Colville River trying to nail big browns.  I got to where I could usually fool one good one (15"+) before the hatch would end each night.  We pulled some good fish out of there, but the real pigs (5-8 lbs) were always just out of casting range.  We would see them, but could never get one hooked.  That hole is closed off now, and it breaks my heart that I can't teach my kid to flyfish there.  The skills I learned on that 50 foot stretch of river have served me on every trout water I've had the pleasure of fishing from coast to coast.  No trout alive is tougher to fool than a big, old brown trout in clear, moving water...
