steelhead in the columbia river
« on: May 31, 2010, 07:13:25 PM »
steelhead fishing has been picking up on the columbia around the county line park area. ive been out three times in the last week and have caught four two hatchery and two natives. Ive also seen around fifteen fish caught. IT is alittle early but the fish are here.spinning glows in pink orange or yellow seem to be the color right now. and sand shrimp or prawns in whatever color you like they are hitting pretty much any color that you put on. good luck and good fishing

My next fishing trip will be for some columbia steel.  Been thinking about it since last year.  Thanks for the report.

Thanks......plan on spending a good amount of time around Kalama....Longview area.  Had heard a week or so ago they were picking some up at the county line park.  Just getting prepared to hit the river for both steelhead and summer chinook starting just before or on the 16th.
Thanks again.

Gary i was fishing even lower in the river on sunday. But I usually fish the rocks above county line. Only been skunked 1 time in 5 years.

nice work guys, couple questions if you don't mind... I haven't fished the big C in years. Where is the county line?

also, what kind of rigs are you running here? are you throwing heavy weights (like 4oz? more less?) with the shrimp and letting the boat drift with the current, or are you trolling spinners/hoochie type salmone setup?

I'm going to try like hell to get out this weekend either for sturgeon or salmon.

I bank it, i saw a boat have an absolute hayday a few years ago bobber dogging the columbia with shrimp but i have never seen those guys again.
I never know how much weight i have on because i use rocks for weight, and i only fish 10-20 feet off the bank, sometimes closer. Sunday i could see my upper bead but couldn't see my spin-n-glo so i knew i was fishing and caught fish within 10 feet from the bank. I use a 10'6" rod and i wasn't casting, just hanging the rod out and dropping my gear. water is real high and they are hugging the bank.
