3 down for the summer
« on: June 03, 2010, 12:52:31 PM »
8mm bites another one. once again since i switched to the norma vulkans, nothing goes far. He didnt even let me get in the seat before i saw him. i took a knee for the 50 yard shot, didnt like it so i sat down, was too low to see through the grass so i got back up on the knee and BOOOM. he took a nose dive right there.  13.5 kilos after the gut. drove around town with him before i got to the walk in cooler. loved the looks i got  :IBCOOL:

I do understand that that's as decent buck over there, but I think I'd be hunting with handgun instead of 8mm rifle cartridge. Do the Germans practice taxidermy for trophies like we do in the states?

how far should a 30 pound animal go when it gets hit by a 8mm?

no bag limits.

for the big game(these arent completely considered big game) the requirements are- at least a 6.5 mm bullet in diameter that produces at least 2000 joules at 100 meters.  I would really like to shoot one with my 45 as i think it would be an awesome caliber for reh, but i dont think it will happen.

even though i could still dislodge and nearly destroy the heart with sellier and bellot soft points, i have noticed a considerable reduction in runners with the norma ammo. even on worse shots. i guess it says something for good bullet performance.  In the end, 8mm isnt a bad round for these deer because its slow. wont blow them up or break the gut like the ones i shot with my .223 last year. The guys that rely on a 30.06 for their everything gun do tend to have nasty exit wounds and the animal still might run.
