that is a good bear for sure but sitting like that it is hard to tell weight or get a close guess. bears tend to use same trails when in thicker areas were the walking is easy not saying they will always but they like to make it easy on them selves, also they may have rub trees they like to mark when they go buy and come to an area and check them. so yes it is possible but as far as getting them patterned well like a whitetail i don't think you can get them figured out down to a certain time with out bait which is not legal here anyways :bash:

If you're dumping apples and have knowledge of a bear visiting them to eat, that is considered baiting.  Personally, I'd move off and quit with the apples if you're hunting with a bear tag in your pocket.  Don't take any chances.  Ethics being what they are (personal), your intentions may not mean squat to an agent with circumstantial evidence to the contrary  :twocents:

Back to the origional question....
I would like to know also,  :dunno:
I have a good trail that a few different bears were using, a boar came by twice, a sow came through twice , and her 2 year old cub (my guess) came through 5 times, but every time it was a different time of day, and no noticeable pattern, sometimes 2 days in a row, skip a day, skip 2 days, only one time a week, not in the last week at all,,, :dunno:, this bear hunting is tough!
a month scouting, 24 days hunting, 1 close encounter, no shot. :bash:

I can see it being hard to prove to an officer that you were baiting for deer and not bear when you have both tags in your pocket.

Think about how you approach deer hunting, i.e. food sources, bedding areas, etc.  Bears are no different so what you're seeing IS their pattern right now. They are moving around within their core area based on current food preferences.  You're on them...just stay on them because they will shift to other areas within their home range to seek out other protein sources (ants, grubs, grasshoppers, fawns  :EAT: - and anything else they can find).  Stay flexible and persistent.  It can happen quickly.  Personally, once fawns hit the ground, I'd be calling as my #1 tactic.  If you've ever called a bear into close range, there's nothing more exciting .  And you will be tapping into the core DNA of a bear's predatory instinct, which in my mind is a much higher odds strategy.  :twocents:
