Crying puppy

So she's a cryer. and i mean a real screamer.   I dont want to hit her, scratch that, i do want to hit her. It drives me nutz. but I do want to look into other alternatives.  It's the way my dad went about it but there must be a better way.  I can't just let her go till she gets tired either, for two reasons. First is the neighbors would call the polezei  and secondly she doesnt get tired. 

Any ideas or tactics you guys have used would be great.


oh yeah, and shock collars are illegal.....bunny huggers.

My puppy would cry and cry when I put her in her crate and left. For the first week or so, I would put her in her crate and then hang out near her so that she could see me. Once she drifted off to sleep I would leave and she would be fine for a while. She still whines a bit in her crate but now all it takes is my voice telling her its ok and she feels better and goes quiet.

Thankfully my pup was fine in the kennel from the get go but I've heard putting th4e kennel next to your bed where you can easily stick your hand down to let them smell it and know your close.  I've also heard the opposite approach, such as putting them in the basement or somewhere where the noise wont bother anyone and let them cry it out.  Be diligent, the pup will realize it's not the end of the world and it will be for the best for all involved.  Also, be consistent with routine and try to make sure the pup is tuckered out for bed time.
  Shoot after awhile my pup would go to his kennel on his own to get away and catch a nap.

yes.  darn thing is like a back nine sprinkler system. she pissed in the house three times in the last hour.

I agree with the above that if you can keep her in your room then she will start to get comfortable. I just laid next to the crate for a few minutes and my pup passed out. Now I don't have a problem anymore.

how about when i put her outside. i dont want her to think she can get in or get whatever she wants by crying??

Lucky for me, we have another dog to keep her entertained so she rarely cries when she is outside. I would just try to have as many toys and things for her to play with while she is out there. That and I would try to wear her out as much as possible while you have the chance so that when you are inside, she might just want to lay around and relax.

I would give it a few days and see. In my case, it was our older dog that didn't want to play and the pup that wanted to chew on her. Now that they have gotten to know each other they like to play alot and it is funny to watch.

Try a squirt of lime or lemon juice on her tounge everytime she starts in and give her the same command everytime like "no whineing". As bad as you want to I wouldn't beat her then through back in that crate cause she will learn to hate it. Good luck and stay sane!

put a cheap radio in the room and shut the door. for a while just leave it on all night day... then use the snooze mode so it stays on for a hour or so...  don't give her attention when she's a whiner...  Worked for my 2 dogs...

A couple things have worked for me when I had a dog do the same thing.  First is get a clock that ticks and put it next to the cage when you put her in it to go to bed.  Not real sure why but it helped out.  Another is just absolutely tire her out before you put her in there.  Play with her for a hour or so or take her for a long walk and then play with her.  That has worked for me in the past and then once they get comfortable with it I can not get them out of their kennel..

I use a squirt bottle with a 1:10 mixture of white vinegar and water.

i tried to spray her with just plain water when she was crying to get in the other day so she made shure she was hiding in the bushes when she really turned up the volume.   

I'll try the clock thing at night. we're about to turn in now. having her in the bedroom helps some.
