Got my new 20 gauge H&R!
« on: June 20, 2010, 08:55:51 AM »
So, I have been lurking and posting here and there but now have a nice little gem to show. I was in the market for a very low cost shotgun for deer. I will be traveling every now and again during the fall season to visit family in Illinois. We hunt deer and they got plenty of 'em. I wanted a fairly cheap, reliable, accurate slug gun for me, my boy when he comes of deer hunting age, and for family use if somebody wants to borrow it. I settled on a H&R Ultra Slug Hunter in 20 gauge. I plan on having the stock and fore grip hydro-something or another camo application for kicks and giggles. I figure it will be great for seasonal use and very safe for an into into hunting gun for my son.  It is heavy as a brick, locks up tight, and has a thick bull barrel to tame the recoil. Check it out and tell me what you think.

That's pretty cool. I think I might have to get one of those someday. Can't beat the simplicity of it. Do you have a scope for it?

yeah sould be a good little gun just gets some diffrent types of slugs and try them check out the new dual bonded line from winchester i am not sure if they are making a 20 g slug yet but you should check the new dual bonded bullets are great stuff i shot the bonded pdx one in a few handguns and they are one of the best bullets i have ever shot. remington also makes a slug with a green poly tip that is pretty sweet it is there premium load. also if they make the xp3 slug in the 20 ga that is another great bullet

Regarding ammo: I have looked at the Winchester Dual Bond and my friend, that is one mean looking bullet. If that won't do the job on bambi then it is me that is doing something wrong. I am also thinking of having the stock and for grip taken off and having it hydro dipped for some camo. Why, cause it's cool and costs about $100.

Regarding scope: I am leaning towards the Leupold Rifleman shotgun scope 3x7 with what I think is a 33 mm tube.

I will post pics of the upgrades as I go for anybody that follows the thread. Hopefully, it will end with some pics of dead deer.

If you ever start feeling like you need more out of this gun, look into the Hasting's barrels and slugs for the H&R's
