Firedog, thanks! Take into consideration that understanding what you're hearing is more important than having to imitate all sounds heard. You only need a handful of sounds for consistent success in having call ins or stalk/call-ins. Focus much more on what sounds mean what as most hunters will hear elk long before they ever see them, so by understanding what you're hearing (not seeing) you can now get a good handle on what's happening or being said or asked for & now form a solid strategy!

Don't just be another hunter that hears a bugle or cow sound & says hey there's elk over there, instead, understand it & act accordingly! This may not be able to happen 100% of the time but 90% of the time is common! In other word become a "Reader Of The Situation"  Good Luck!

OH trust me I understand that, I am an info junkie. Have lots of videos to study and anohter great CD by Steve Chappell of elk sounds that I have been listening to to learn more and more. So that coupled with as much time in the woods as possible I learn more every season.

firedog, I agree with you 100% about the in the field experience, it's priceless! Couple that with homework such as understanding sounds & situation of use will just flat make you a better elk hunter! Take it a step further & now watch all elk hunting shows you can & listen to the elk & see if you can take all that learning & understand what you're hearing. It's amazing how well you'll get at interpreting them! This is a great exercise that will ready you that much more for you elk hunt! Just don't yell at the hunters on TV as they go against what the elk are saying or asking! (grin)

Accurate info is also very important not just someones theories, this can only be achieved through study not just because a guy has seen this or that a few times.---I believe the Estrus Buzz is misrepresented at times as why elk use it & when. This can cause more problems than help!

What is your understanding on this sound, I'd be very interested to know? Thanks!

I just finished listening to this CD.  I won't call it a brilliant work of art, because I don't think that was its intent.  However, I will call it a good collection of damn-hard-to-come-by sounds.  Well done ElkNut!  That was a great addition to the collection, because all the sounds are made by elk and not a caller.  It really gives a good perspective about their individual voices.

I couldn't recommend this highly enough to do it justice to someone who was anything less than a 40 year veteran of calling elk with 20+ bulls under their belt.  The caveat I would put in is that you'd need the playbook to go along with it to see what ElkNut has to say about how and when to use the sounds.  Without the playbook of previous videos, then the Sounds Of The Elk CD is far less effective.
Bring a GPS!  It's awkward to have to eat your buddies!
