No waiting on Rifles Handguns yes. At least that has been my experience.
If you like the 06 buy a new synthetic youth stock.
Jim Briggs has new takeoffs for around $30-$35 and he is a great guy to deal with .

I just checked the Savage website and I don't see the 110 listed anymore.  They do have other models though.......I think the 116fhss would fit the bill. http://www.savagearms.com/16fhss.htm

Get that in 7-08 and you will be able to take deer and elk easily and the rifle only weighs 6.5lbs w/ the 22" barrel just like the Rem model 7.

There is no wait on the rifle purchase unless there is a problem with the federal check. Most federal delays are cleared within 72 hours and I have experienced one so far. The state waiting period applies to handguns and not to long guns/rifles. In addition to that - if you have a concealed weapons permit you don't have to wait to get your pistol as long as the federal check passes.

Thanks, Slenk.  So, they only offer the 110 in the package deal now?  The 110 is a rifle I was considering for my wife a while back but I put it on the back burner.  I wouldn't want a package deal since I'd rather get a Leupold scope for it and not the scope that Savage puts on it.

One of our sons just traded for a Savage 111 same thing as the older 110.
It was a package gun also . He said the scope was crap, but the rifle was nice . Take a look at the Stevens as they are the same thing as the old Savage 110 ,no accutrigger. I have one in 7mm-08 that I really like . They come in short & long actions.

Just throw the junk scope in the garbage and put a decent scope on it (or sell it to somebody on here.)    I doubt you're paying much extra for the included scope anyway.

Accutrigger is a Savage brand trigger that they came up with a few years ago.  It is supposed to be pretty good.

Short action is just that.........shorter than a long action.  And a shorter action means less weight.  Some cartridges use a long action and some use short.  30-06 based cartridges for example are long action and .308 based cartridges are short action.

If you want less weight, you will need to go with a short action; ie .308, 7-08 or the various WSM's.  I wouldn't recommend WSM's in a light, short rifle as it could kick the snot out of you.

My wife picked up a Remington model 7 in 7mm-08 and really likes it.  She got the 'youth' or small frame version and it fits her perfectly.  The short actions don't kick quite as bad, if you go with a long action they make reduced recoil rounds now that are pretty decent.

Michele, Check out the Tikka T3 light, they come in most calibers, they have synthetic stocks. The Remington model 7 is a great rifle but sometimes to small for adults. The Tikka is in the middle as size goes. Go to Sportsmans and just start looking, they have everything that has been mentioned here.

Well I guess what I will do is go to sportsmans and cabelas first and see what they have in the rifles mentioned above.  Narrow it down to a couple that fit me first off and narrow it down from their. Once I get it narrowed down to what I want I can go price shopping for it.

There is a new gun store in Rochester you might try, at least give them a call and get a price, once you figure out what it is you want to order. Model 700 LSS is a sweet gun. They make them with a detachable mag. That in a 270 or 270 wsm would be perfect.
