The compound world and the trad world are very different in that respect....100 is avg for compound, 85 smaller...125 big... For trad, you rarely hear of anyone shooting less than 125 and the trend has been to go heavy up front. There are several high quality, machined, stainless heads available that go 175-300 Grains! You dont see the compounders shooting them at all...

why can't you hunt for a couple of years ?

coach I'm a 2LT in the Army.  I'm currently in SE Alabama learning to fly helicopters.  So I'll wont be able to hunt this year or next year due to flight school.  The fall of 2012 I will most likely be deployed to Afghanistan.  I'll be hunting just not elk, more of the Taliban persuasion :chuckle:  So most likely I wont be able to hunt elk until 2013.  Which by then I should have about 8 or 9 points saved up.  So HOPEFULLY that's enough to draw a tag. Until then I'll be living my life vicariously through all of you guys.  So keep posting pics and stories PLEASE!!!!!!

In the meantime I can hunt hogs 365 days a year with no limit.  And deer season runs for 3 1/2 months.  The limit is a total of 3 bucks throughout the year.  And I can shoot 2 does a day every day.

I plan on using hogs as a test bed to test a couple of different broadheads.  I figure their thick bones and hide should be a good test bed for elk.  I currently am using Slick Tricks.  I also plan on testing out the Shuttle T-Loc and the Magnus Snuffer SS.

Wabear thank-you for your support. It is a privelage and an honor to have the opportunity to fly and serve my country at the same time.

Lowedog don't worry I've for three rages in my quiver as we speak.

520 I have yet to even see a pig. It'll happen though. This tike of year is really hard to hunt pigs because of the heat. They are very inactive and very nocturnal. But I keep trying. The base game warden literally gave me grid coordinates to where there are pigs. I'm gonna set out bait and let my game camera do Tue scouting. Then go from there.  Ill most definately post pics

Hi I used to archery hunt for about eight years before I got sick, and can't do it anymore, I have a Martin Magnum Warthog bow 55 to 70 lb draw and I used to shoot Bear 150 grain broadheads and they were pretty accurate up to 45 yards. I had my bow set for around 65 lbs, and 260 fps, I don't know how well they will work in some of the newer extreme bows with more speed, I would think not as well. I don't know why alot of these bow hunters think they have to shoot over 320fps to get an animal, its more of a macho thing, I think. See my impressive bow its extremely fast, to bad I can't hit anything with it. I'm not saying all the archery hunters are that way for there are some very good ones. By the way if you know of anyone looking for a good compound bow with 2 dozen arrows, broadheads, fieldpoints, two sights, wrist release, quiver, hardside carrying case, and more I have my Martin Magnum Warthog up for sale for $300 for all its a great deal for someone, e-mail me at edoredm@yahoo.com
