Chrony's are just plain coooooooolll
« on: July 17, 2010, 06:26:59 PM »
The wifey santa gave me a chrony a couple of years ago and the first time I used it it wouldn't work so it just sat in my shop until today. I used it with a fellow member and his bro in law and it was a real eye opener. It was especially cool on the handgun loads.

Weird thing though. I own two 260's. One with a 20" barrel and the other with a 24" tube. The 20 incher was faster. Not by much but it was consistantly faster by 15 or so fps with the exact same load. So much for the 50 fps per inch.  :chuckle:

My swede shoots exactly the same as my 260 but with a lighter bullet. Was glad to know the speed on it.

OH DAMN!!!! Matt!!! We didn't shoot the 45 acp's through it.

ANyways no real point to this post but they are a pretty freaking cool toy so you really know how fast your loads are.

One hint for first timers.............................. Place the unit AT LEAST 10 feet away. On the first shot it was almost as if we shot the unit. The muzzle blast sent pieces flying.  :chuckle:  :chuckle:

Picked up one myself with some Cabelas gift certificates from my birthday.  I have chrono'd everything from my bows, bbguns, rifles, pistols, muzzyloader, to my little girl throwing a baseball over it.  :chuckle: Lots of fun, but a lot of good data to use when making changes to loads, bullets, arrows, rests, cams, etc.

Nope! Using a chrony is just how to develope a favorite load.  190gn Hornady BTSP@ 3125fps.

They're cool until you misalign them.........  A buddy of mine did that.  I thought it was pretty funny myself.
