pictures of my hunting arrow
« on: July 21, 2010, 11:31:07 AM »
i get asked a lot about my hunting setup. so here it is, my trad bows i shoot 6 fletch 3" parobolic hand cut feathers on wood or trad carbon arrows. some are tapered some are not. then i shoot 4 fletch blazer style vanes, vanetec hp's on my compound bows. the reason i shoot this setup is. it works great for me, i shoot a lot of large broadheads. this system i use does a very nice job of stabilzin the arrows in flight and i never have to look down to knock my arrows as well. i also set my j-8 with as much offset os possible i make all my own arrows wood from scratch and the carbons from bare shafts. i have had nothing but good luck and they are unquie as well :IBCOOL: if anyone has any questions feel free to ask 2 of the wraps are xxx rated so i left them very blury and did not fix them and the wife had the good camera as well :bash:

NICE SET UP,  :)  :hello:

I GOT A QUESTION FOR YOU,     SO... DOES HAVING MORE VEINS ON THE ARROW STABALISE THE ARROW IN FLIGHT BETTER?  I MADE LOTS OF MY OWN ARROWS,   THEY ALL WORKED BEAUTIFULLY, EXCEPT WHEN I TRY SHOOTING WITH BIGGER BROADHEADS, THE FLIGHT OF THE ARROWS WAS WAY OFF,  WOULD PUTTING MORE VEINS FIX THIS PROBLEM?

i feel yes from what i have seen on my personal arrows. more veins means more spin, same thing as longer veins. the more air surface they catch the more they will spin. the same applys to the amount of offset more offset more spin. i shoot some very large heads such as the montec on my compounds and the deadheads and snuffers on my trad bows i have played with a lot of fletching styles and types and amounts and this is what stabalise them the best that i have seen. if you make your own arrows and need one refleched, just try it out and see what ya think.

on the 4 fletch with the 2" vanes, are the 90/90 or 30/60? looks like you have some of both.

90 90 90 90 but they maybe look diffrent because i max out my j8 with offset for the most spin i can get with it. and anyone wanting to try the 6 fletch just use your 3 fletch setup/ fletch 3 and then rotate the arrow 180 in the jig and it will lay the next one's in there nice!

Biginner... If your broadheads are flying crazy and your field tips dont appear to be, its because you are way out of tune...spine is off somewhere. it doesn't take a big bunch of feathers or vanes to stabilize your arrow...however, as Carpsniper knows, it dont hurt either and is kind of insurance...

Those are cool Carp.. .the only thing I can see if more chance for unwanted riser contact with more feathers, but feathers dont do much to the flight when they strike the shelf or riser anyhow!

Cool!

no prob  kinda a unique deal. i was making some flu-flu arrows, and i got a brain storm. so i got out the chopper, and fletched a arrow up and it was sweet! so i switched to all 6 fletch on my recurves that was about 3 years ago but been shooting 4 fletch on my compound arrows for about 5 years ya might try it boneaddict if you have a arrow that needs refleching try it out and see what ya think. as well as anyone one else that might want to try it. my wraps and fletching kinda makes my arrows stand out at the shoots and if i do loose one at a shoot , and someone finds it they know its mine :chuckle: the noise on my recurves with the 6 fletch is a little more like a guy would think but i compare it to some arrows that i have 4 4" shield featherd on and they are almost the same noise level. i have found that the parabolic feathers don't make as much noise as the shields, that tend to cut the air more then the rounded edges on the parabolic.

and yes you are right hornseeker, more contact but i have never seen any effects what so ever. i shoot shelf and rest's, on the several diffrent trad bows i have. none seem to have a prob with the 6 fletch :IBCOOL:

Do you use a really heavy broadhead?  If it's flying well, obviously your FOC is not screwed up by the wrap and additonal fletching, but is that due to the weight of the head?

yes that is part of it, it also makes them easy to see in flight with a wrap on them and mine are from 12-20grains dpending on the wrap. the broadheads i shoot range from 75-150 but most times they are 125g that i use yep my front of center is just finethat is also why they are diffrent lengths as well depending on the arrow some are 27" some are 31" depends on the setup.

I used to shoot 4 fletchings on my old compound bow.  Have gone back to the three fletch with the new bow.
Cut em!
