49 DN Moose
« on: July 24, 2010, 08:43:50 AM »
I got a chance to look over some country and saw a few bulls. I didn't get a picture of the best one, but did get a few crappy ones through the scope. I biked about 12 miles back behind a gate and went to some other areas with the guidance of a really cool dude (Benhuntin) and his boy. His kid is a moose spotting guru! Thanks Ben, I appreciate the help some of you are trying to give to help me find a good one. I hope Mr. Big makes an appearance.

one through the scope doesn't look like a bad bull, looks like you are off to a good start.

Back in the day you would see lots of deer and an elk once in awhile. Now it seems like you see moose every time out head out to the woods. In joy the ride, lots of fun with that tag. ;) BTW, I will be home in Chewelah deer hunting the first week of season. If you haven't got your bull yet, I'd love to go on a hunt with you and do some calling.

Thanks for the offer. I'm hoping to get it done before deer rifle because I'm not sure how that pressure will effect the Moose.

It seems like people don't bother the moose. Wood cutter's, deer hunter's etc., don't mater. There the biggest thing in the woods. The rut is where it's at. ;)

drew my moose tag in that area a few years back.  shot him opening day (oct 1).  they were rutting heavy.  saw three bulls and two cows on the opener before i shot him...not bad 43 1/2".  he had a long scar on his nose and busted ribs from fighting....bikin in behind a gate 12 miles seems a little too abmitious for me, but each their own...good luck !  hindsight i wish I'd used my bow as he was only 40 yds

I was mainly exploring the country. Trust me I'm looking for one on the uphill side of a road. They are BIG! If I see a good one 40 yards away I may use a smokepole. Post up a picture of your 43 incher. I need practice judging.

I'm leaving my options open and will have a bow and muzzleloader close by, but if I see the one I want and he's over 100 yds the 300 WM is going to get it done. There aren't many entries in the Washington book for Muzzy, in fact I could only find one. That's not entirely important to me but it is intriguing.

That's a really good bull brew. I don't think I could hold off on that one. Thanks for posting it.
