How long can you wait?
« on: July 30, 2010, 08:55:18 AM »
OK here is my question, I have a bull tag this year and I hope to smoke a hanger but right at hunting season is just about the worst time money wise  :bash: does a mount have to get to the taxi right away or can it be preserved for a month or so? Or another option maybe is to cap him out and wait to have him mounted! Is this an extra charge to mount him from this state  :dunno: this maybe a stupid question but I honestly don't know so I had to ask!  thanks in advance for your help  :hello:

You'd have to ask the taxi's on here, but I believe with a  downpayment you can make payments till your mount is done. I think you'd have to freeze the cape in order to wait a while.

You could cape him yourself and get the hide tanned.  I think you could wait almost indefinitely then.  You can also freeze the hide for sometime (don't know how long, maybe one of the Taxi's can weigh in).  When freezing, I believe you want the hide spread out as much as possible in the freezer and not all rolled into a ball.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

I've heard freezing isn't a good Idea. getting the cape tanned is the best idea. or just buy a cape when you have the money. I think most Taxi's would work with you. if you can save up a down payment. My deer a few years ago was half down half on delivery.

What I tell my customers is get it to me asap so I can cape it and take care of the cape. Your better off to pay the money to have it dry tanned so that when you are ready you can get that bad boy mounted just bring the cape and horns in and get it done.  In all reality, by the time the mount gets put together Im sure you  could make enough payments to get it paid for.I ask for half down but  Im always willing to work with people if they done have the dough right away as long as you cover the tanning costs up front .

Oh ya, you dont want to take a chance on ruining a BIG bull cape. Trust me you will pay big $$ for a BIG cape. Probably looking at 400+ for a tanned cape in that 13 x 34 range like most of the mature bulls over there.

Exactly what bucklucky said!  You shoot a nice bull you don't want to risk ruining the cape.  They are expensive to replace.  Get it taken care of.  I also ask for 1/2 down on mounts but as bucklucky is I am always willing to work with people that don't have the money.  I also accept payments to help people out.
