Any one with crossbow info?
« on: August 04, 2010, 09:36:09 PM »
Hello, I'm new to the forum, nice site.
I am also new to crossbow hunting due to a shoulder injury.I have been bow hunting for 15 yrs and love it. Wondering if anyone could share what they know or have encountered with the crossbow. Thank you. :dunno:

welcome to this great site. there is also a intro page in the general area you might check out as well and tell a little more about yourself. as far as cross bows go i have only been around a few. the new one that i would check out is made by pse archery and it is a great one from what i have read. if you want to go fixed limb style i don't think you could go wrong with a Excalibur! the only thing is they tend to be louder on the shot then the new cam cross bows. also the new Horton with reverse draw seems pretty cool. i think it is called the vision? watched Greg Ritz "spelling" the other day bust a big stag in new zealand with one. hope this helps, remember to make sure you find one that can take iron sights as well since unless you have a vision problem along with shoulder you can't use elec or glass sites on them. hope this helps ya out! :hello:

There are certain area's that are now allowing crossbows in restricted weapon areas.  If you check the regs, it will define those area's.  Only draw back is they require iron sites, so you have to use pins similar to that on your bow.  I have a scoped PSE that I shoot for fun.  Check out Cabela's or some of the other sites as they sell them to many states that do allow the use of them with less restrictions.

It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

Thanks for the input. I have a setup its a, Barnett Revolution AVI 150# 345fps real kick in the shorts fun. I am well practiced with the unit and have boned up very thoroughly on the regs and have also obtained wa. state ADA dissabled hunter crossbow special use permit as well as dissabled hunter access placard for entry into some gated areas with a vehicle or ATV and last but not least a designated harvester card for a companion should i need help harvesting or retrieving game. New for this season anyone can use a crossbow in firearm restricted areas but no scopes or lasers unless you are legally vision impaired to a certain degree. Iron sights works great for us with our vision. The thing is very accurate from 0-60 yrds haven't pushed much past that. What do you all think about braodhead weight 22" bolt 150# draw very few products on the market that are xbow spec. 2-3 styles of heads are 150 & 175gr. With my compound bow I always ran a 29" carbon shaft with 100gr. Rockets. The Rockets shoot great out of the crossbow as well. I'm thinking down range energy issues heavy vs lite. All said and that's allot sorry . What do you all think. :chuckle:
