What am I doing wrong?
« on: August 09, 2010, 07:47:43 AM »
I scouted a lowland area yesterday that a local told me has been full of bears the last few seasons. It's a mix a reprod, clearcuts, powerline on the outskirts of a small town. None of the berries were ripe yet so I got down low into the swamps and walked the drainage looking at the grasses and skunk cabbage. Still I couldn't find any sign. I know it was only day one but I imagined I would have came upon a peel, pile of crap, or a track. Any advice? :)

Just keep hunt'n. The more I read and the more I walk, look, and listen the closer I feel I am getting. Sounds like you have some good area.

you answered your own question...

"the berries werent ripe yet"....

Wait till these are ripe and you should see more.

Keep at it. Sounds like a good place.

Just hunt ethically and know what your shooting. I already know 1 guy who shot a momma bear to 2 cubs.

We passed a sow out near Shelton with cub and a 100 pounder in a canyon already.
The bears are there.
I agree just be sure its not with cubs

If the weather man is right, and with the rain we are having if the heat comes on later this week like they say, I think the berries are gonna go into hyperdrive, and soon. I know that the salmon berries are in full swing up high from what I saw this last weekend.    :twocents:

That's why they call it HUNTING. Part of the enjoyment is the chase and being out in the field.
