Landed two kings with one being a White King.  Good day of fishing.

I've been hearing rumors of having to buy a permit locally to fish that river...Care to confirm or deny?

It's a $100 payable to the Samish River LLC.  That gets you access up to Sunset on the river.  Then Bill won't let anyone into the log hole, etc. Upriver.  So, it has become a cluster up to the bridge.  To many idiots ruined it.  Some are trying to come in on the State side but being ran out.  They will be handing out tresspassing tickets to anyone who has not purchased a permit.  It's unfortunate.

How is the crowd now that you have to pay. I went down a couple weeks ago to just look around the lower bridge for anything rolling and seen the signs and then the local patrol came up and offered me an application. I am having a hard time paying the $100(not because I don't have it). I called the game dept. to talk tham about how they can own the dike and river but never heard back. Just doesn't seem right. If the dike is breached is the Samish River Services LLC going to repair it? No they will run and the State will fix it.

I'm guessing you are 100% correct there, last I knew those dikes were county maintained. It will probably take someone getting arrested over this with a good lawyer to put the kibosh on Samish River LLC. It pisses me off that it has come to this, I used to fish there every year for kings but I'm not about to pay extra to fish that river. That river happens to be where I met a sawed off little game warden that turned out to be the biggest *censored*bag in the world, I didn't see him the last few years I fished there so hopefully he got fired.

I will tell you right now, I've fished that hole in the mud for 10 or more years. I will not pay $100 to stand there, when you can stand on state land and fish the same section of river. What I call this is people willing to pay for something that they can get for free... I checked with the accessors site. He bought all that property from the river to the dike up to the first bend in 2009 for $1950, then from the bend past the pilings for alittle more. At charging $100 per person and it is per person, not per vehicle, and giving out the "200" permits he was originally going to give out, that makes it a pretty damn good investment on peoples money.... Now what we have to do is make sure if that dike breaks HE is the one who will be paying out of HIS pocket to fix it, not the counties money.... Have fun trying to run me off the state side, I will laugh my butt off.... Its not my fault your willing to give a *censored* money when you can do it for free.... My 2 cents....

So where are you parking and walking in to fish on state land?

you park on the side of the road next to the state land. I was told by a local leo that it was perfectly fine as long as your vehicle is not over the sideline. I have seen fights almost break out down there over stupid stuff, and I got a feeling there will be quite a few with this guys new money making idea.

Nice looking fish.

I have no idea were this is (other then the samish river), but if there is state land avail and parking is a problem, is there a place say within a mile that is perfectly legal to park that someone could then ride a mountain bike to the state land and then access it to fish?

Which side of the river is still state land?

I gave up fishing that muddy ditch 10 years ago because of the crowds, can't imagine what it would be like now. Can't blaim the  landowners for shutting down access though. With high fecal colaform levels and the fish tasting like crap not sure what the big attraction is for that river anyways.

People have been real good about not parking over the fog line so far.  Weekends are crowded for sure but not so bad on weekdays and off tide times.  When you park on the West side look at your rig and ask yourself would where its parked piss me off if I was trying to drive through the area.  That is always a good way to make sure that the shoulder parking continues.

I can't afford a $100 bucks and miss the days when I used to drive over and be one of 2 or 3 fishing the lower holes.

Thinking of a $100 bucks with a two fish limit, I might as well buy a few copper river sockeye for the price.

I fished it once about a half dozen years ago.  The crowds were worse than a pink run on the Puyallup.  I never went back.

Selling access for $100.00 apiece?  Its good work if you can get it.
Friend: "Are you free tonight?"
Me:  (Gazing into the distance as a bald eagle screeches)  "I'm always free"

Haha, I wonder how long it will be before the local espresso shop (that also sells brats) suffers an economic downturn due to lack of peeps willing to pay $100 to fish that stinkiest of all rivers?
